At the great Warley Model Railway Show 2019 the Model Railway Society of Ireland presented its 0 Gauge/7mm scale layout, which is known as “Ardmore”. It is an end-to-end layout and it is representative of a typical Irish branch line terminus for an Irish village with facilities for passengers and goods. There is also a locomotive shed and servicing area including a turntable right at the end of the line which was a common feature on rural terminus lines.
Pilentum chose this model train layout for filming because of the unique rolling stock: The locomotives and coaches are mainly converted items, kit built or handmade from metal or from brass. Also the majority of the buildings are handmade from various materials, having been based on Irish prototype buildings. The trains cover a wide period from the 1940’s to the 1970’s. That was the period when many branch lines in Ireland had closed. During the Warley Show the layout has been operated to a realistic schedule to allow both passenger and goods trains to run in and out of the terminus.
